COALITION OF NEWLY TRAINED TEACHERS (CONTRAT) HITS HARD ON GOVERNMENT

AWAKE GOVERNMENT TO OUR PLIGHTS – NEW TRAINED TEACHERS CRY FOUL
It is on record that on the 23rd September 2016, GES directed all newly trained teachers who have been posted to the District to report to their new stations to commence work from 3rd October 2016. The directives also stated failure to comply will lead to lost of salary.

We followed the directives and assumed duty at our various schools in the hinterlands and remote places as indicated. We borrowed to pay for rented rooms and to feed ourselves to enable start work only for the district directors to stop us from continuing teaching because ministry of finance has not given them any financial clearance. There is little or no assurance that we would be paid for the work we have started. We find this instance very inhumane, diabolic, unfair, disheartening and very surprising since it was boldly written on our appointment letters “approval has been given for your appointment into the Ghana Education Service with effect from 1st September, 2016”.

Another revelation from the IPPD offices indicates there is no directive from government to enable us fill input forms to process our salaries at Controller Accountant General’s Department (CAGD). The officers are saying we have no Staff ID’s and confirmation letters to confirm we have been recruited into GES.

CONTRAT want to know why government could give appointment letters which is a binding statement of contract without Staff ID’s? This weird, absurd and incongruous and does not befit 21st century living.

As a matter of urgency, we entreat the government to start and quicken the process of enrolling us onto the payroll.

Our daily living has become a burden on our parents and guardians.

The question is which employer will employ workers and pretend to pay them sometime to come. It’s an insult to the teaching profession and a signal that the government doesn’t have teachers at heart.

The likely consequences of this event is abandoning of classrooms, constant and prolong absenteeism and poor lesson delivery. This does not affect the pupils adversely but also the human resources development.

CONTRAT is sending a strong signal to government that if this salary brouhaha is not resolved now, we will stage a famous labour unrest to display our displeasure and anger at the turn of events.

We are waiting for the government to fulfil the so called promises he had made to us.
Long live Ghana, Long live Teachers.  Thank you
