A recent publication on an online news

portal breakingnewsgh.com has it that government is set to expunge some 4000 teachers names from the it payroll.
The report which is believed to have

been  released from the Flagstaff House

states, that ”As part of measures by

government to lay off workers to meet the

policies of International Monetary Funds

(IMF) in 2017,a meeting was held in the

flagstaff house of which Labour

Minister,Finance minister and Minister of

education including other members in the

house outlined strategies to cut down

government expenditure in the months of

September 2016 to November 2016.”

According to the Statement,Education

Minister Prof.Naana Opoku had been

advised to put up drastic measures to

reduce the number of workers in Ghana

Education Service. The Ghana Education

Service was expected to lay off about

2000 teachers from government payroll

and additional 2000 names to be  expunged

in 2017.

Meanwhile , information reaching theupdatesonline.com  from the Ministry of

Education debunked the said

publication, stating there was no meeting of

that nature to expunge teachers because

Teachers are already aware of the rules

and regulations governing their work and

they need no IMF Conditions to perform

their tasks as enshrined in their codes of

Conducts as teachers.

The source further elaborated on the fact

that the issue of Job security pertaining

members of Teacher Unions was resolved

long ago and they need no IMF bailout to

determine their conditions of service.

According to the Deputy Minister of

Education,Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the

said publication was rather an abysmal

attempt at creating disaffection for the

government and it defies ‘common sense’

especially at a time the Ministry of

Education was recruiting more

teachers and

He further made reference to the

recruitment of about 2,500 Mathematics

and Science teachers to teach in the basic

level next Academic year.

Teachers are to take the said publication as

a misguided judgement and to disregard

any further false information which is not

communicated from their employers.
