RELIGIOUS AND MORAL EDUCATION

Religious and moral education– Is an
academic subject or discipline in the Ghanaian
school system which comprises religion,
morality and education and which offers the
learner with attitudes, values, concepts, and
skills which are neccssary for a better living.
The rational behind the subject is to reinforce
the religious and moral training that children
receive from their homes.

THE NATURE OF RELIGION
It affect all aspects of person’s life.
Is a complex phenomenon that influence the
life of a person in many ways.
E.B Taylor – Region is the belief in a spiritual
being.
Sigmund Freud– Religion is a universal
obsessive neurosis.
Karl Marx– Religion is the opium of the
masses.

Characteristics of Religion
1. It defines a binding relationship between
humans and the suppernatural.
2. Religion is spirit centered.
3. Religion is characterized by creed, code and
cult.
Religious person– Is anyone who accepts,
believes and practices the faith of a particular
religion.

1.The person go through the initiation rites
without hesitation.
2. He/ she has faith in superior being.
3. He/ she tries to live peacefully with all
others.
4. He or she observes the religious rituals
5. The person practices the virtues of his/ her
faith.

THE CONCEPT OF MORALITY
This consists of the tradition,values, customs
and habits that are cherished by a given
society. It consists of a system of rules. It can
therefore be define as to quality in human
conduct by which we call them good or bad,
right or wrong.
