President John Mahama is expected to cut sod for the construction of the new Terminal at the Kotoka International Airport which will be known as Terminal 3.
The sod cutting will be at the end of February 2016.This comes after the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) last year secured a loan of 250 million dollars for the construction of Terminal 3, at the Kotoka International Airport by a consortium of banks led by Ecobank Capital.
The completion of Terminal 3 is to expand facilities at the Kotoka International Airport to accommodate the increasing passenger throughput and increasing number of airlines servicing the KIA.
Chief Director of the Ministry of Transport,Twumasi Ankrah Selby said, the Turkish construction giant, Mapa and Gunal Construction was already on site mobilizing.
Sod cutting would soon be done by the President which will be done at the end of the month and that “The contractor, has up to approximately the first quarter of 2018 to complete the project.” Twumasi Ankrah Selby said.
The new terminal will be situated at the round air side stretching to the Old Fire Service area, to the Hanger area of KIA and is expected to have a capacity of 5 million passengers a year.
